The ministry participated along with twenty-five other organizations and companies in a health fair organized by the Welfare Department Employee of the Government Accountability Office, in order to provide care and counseling services that promote physical, emotional and spiritual health of employees. In our booth we reached about two hundred thirty people and treats the booklet “How to Manage Anger,” which focuses on control of emotions and anger. Similarly, as a way to share the Word of God, we used of our Message of Hope box, in which each person had the opportunity to receive a headband containing a verse of encouragement and motivation. A young woman looking for marriage counseling was very pleased with the booklets about love and romance in marriage, and who said that is about to get married and want your marriage to be strengthened. We thank God that opened the doors to get their message to this place, let us pray that his word has touched the hearts of these people. Likewise we thank for having had the support of our dear sister and friend who accompanied us Dayra Ruiz in this activity.

Two hundred people were reached with messages of encouragement and hope in the Health Fair organized by the Ministry of Public Works with the purpose of providing care, guidance and promote healthy lifestyles. We provided guidance through a variety of our materials, dealing with various aspects of daily life. Similarly, with our puppets Anita and Monique, we were encouraging and motivating people who visited our booth. We had the volunteer support of Professor Dayra Ruiz, who, with great enthusiasm, is always ready to serve God, spreading the message of His Word to every place where you have the opportunity. 80 people received the booklet on the management of emotions, specifically “How to control anger.” Many visitors to our booth agreed that the wrath and anger are emotions that cause people to lose control and become intolerant of others, leading to situations of aggression and fighting.

Outpatient-Children’s Hospital.
Children and adults sang and praised God with the chorus that says: “Christ is not dead he is alive, I feel it in the hands, feet feel, I feel it in all my being” during a visit to Children’s Hospital to out a special Easter presentation. The puppets Tita and Dina shared the Good News of the resurrection and the triumph of Jesus over death to 250 people at the outpatient area at the Omar Torrijos Herrera Children’s Hospital. For their part, children received some coloring sheets about the resurrection and death of Jesus, which were very tasty. For Lic.AnayansiHernández, a social worker from the hospital, commented: “This was a message of great impact and importance since this is a time of reflection and forgiveness that should be used to get closer to God and united the family”. We also had the opportunity to pray for the child who was receiving therapy, Deren, who was very distressed by the pain he felt for the needle that they put in one of his little hands. Let’s keep him in prayer, like all children and families that received this message from the Word of God.

Self-Esteem Workshop Curundú Housing Project.
Administrative staff and workers in the construction of housing of the urban and social renewal project in the field of Curundú, received a full training session organized by the Intersectoral Network of Mental Health, the Ministry of Health and Odebretch company. The ministry participated with a workshop on Self-esteem. This group, mostly men who live in a risk circumstances because of the environment where violence, poverty and gang rivalry had claimed the lives of many young people and marking others to the point that police presence is necessary to keep security.
We noticed a great receptivity of these men with a rude appearance, but with a great desire to hear a voice of hope to show them a different way of living they. What a great blessing was the guidance given to them, helping them to recognize that value as human beings is based on that are God’s workmanship, created in His image and likeness, not the material things they have. We have the support of Lic. Odaliris Bethancourt, from the Light for the Blind Board, and Licdo. Alberto Chacon, from the Ministry of Public Works, who developed dynamic that reinforced the guidance we gave on the skills and recognize those aspects that are necessary to change to be better every day.

Day of Resurrection, Loma Coba.
One of the goals in the ministry’s strategy is giving the opportunity to the children from the schools where the ministry is working, to participate in the church. Griselda Aguilar, a member of the ministry and a member of the Lutheran Church, is in charge to attend the schools in the area of Loma Coba, developing several performances including the promotion of a special event. During Holy Week, we made the firsts steps. For two weeks, students of Jesús en los Pobres School were invited to participate with their parents in a special event to celebrate Easter Sunday at the God is Great Church. Pastor Jorge Villamil and congregation welcomed the children of the community, including the students. Griselda was responsible for the development of the activity where the children enjoyed and looked for Easter eggs. The Lions Club, benefactor of the activities of the Church, collaborated with the toast. For our part, we supported the presentation of films and materials.

We remember with some fear the vaccination day in our elementary school. For some, this is a trauma, and children of Jesús en los Pobres went through this experience. The nurse, from Arraijan Polyclinic, injected children against the flu and other diseases. This day we were present with the puppets Cococho, Grandpa and Chonta, so this situation gave us the opportunity to visit classrooms to encourage children to be vaccinated.
One interesting detail was the support that they felt to be accompanied by the puppets at the time of vaccination. This idea turned out to be a big help. It was obvious the change of attitude once the children lost the fear and were informed about the benefits of the vaccine. Likewise, we spoke on the Christian perspective to prevent “soul diseases”. Among some tears, the laughter of others and a frightened face of the majority, they were animated by the puppets. By invitation of the nurse, the puppets will be going during future events of vaccination, especially the younger ones.

The Bible study “The Power of Prayer” was held with 26 students fromSinFronterasSchool. These young students accepted to be referred to the church near the school, so their spiritual growth could be improved. This study was given to the teachers who supervised the study and for four weeks each chapter was read. At the end, we presented the video “My Hope”, to complement. Finally, students received certificates of graduation, credited with points in the class of Spanish. Professor Militza Torres says, “These studies ensure intensive training in Christian values and lead the Church at the heart of these kids”. Already 215 students have completed the course.

The fourth level students ofSinFronterasSchoolwere chosen to learn the use of puppets “Memo and his friends”, as a tool to share a message or an idea. After a lot of practice, the students developed a devotional, using poetry, songs and dramas. The applause did not wait. Involving the children in the performances of the Christian message is highly effective.

The idea of this contest is motivating the talent and creativity of children. The first steps of the contest have already started with a promotion, and a mass invitation to participate, with parental consent. After that, we will have a casting to select those who will continue to the next step. The volunteer Nelson Araúz, Project Joel facilitator, is in charge to develop this level. Jesús en los Pobres’ students were invited and also, received a music session given by Nelson. It is wonderful to see the children’s innate talent, especially when used to praise the Lord. Launched the publicity and there is much enthusiasm. The official winner of each school will compete with winners from Estela Sierra, Sin Fronteras, Jerónimo de la Ossa, Buen Pastor and Jesús en los Pobres Schools. 80 Christian songs were selected, which will be performance by students. This is the first part of an event we wish will be repeated and strengthened throughout the territory of Panama.

The puppets in the Bethania Polyclinic.
As a way to complement the various activities taking place at the Bethania Polyclinic, the ministry participated with a special performance by using the puppet theater. Four years ago, Mr. Jorge Lasso, our contact in this institution of health, is working with the training and Christian education personnel, children of staff and patients of this polyclinic. During Holy Week, Christian video presentations and seminars were issued to staff and patients in the waiting room where the puppet theater was received.

The use of alphabet games, animal puzzles and dynamic strengthen the education on values. Usually, within an hour, we work with groups of primary section ofSinFronterasSchool, thus having a really fun time and learning. Topics include Biblical characters presented in the videos of “Larry the Cucumber”, “Bob the Tomato” and videos of “Great legends and stories of the Bible”. With this strategy we can present the entire Bible for a child who graduates from sixth grade.
